Full strike with an attractive chocolate brown color. The metrics of the coin are listed on the holder.
1855 Flying Eagle J-168 PR-64BN PCGS CAC (PS) $4,500
An attractive light chocolate brown example. There are hardly any marks. A great example of the Flying Eagle cent produced a year before the classic 1856.
1855 Flying Eagle J-173 PR-64BN PCGS (PS) $4,750
Two Leaves under E in STAES. Fully struck and a real beautiful example. There are really no marks or abrasions to warrant the grade. The dies show heavy die polish on both sides, but this is a desirable aspect of the coin. This is a very tough die pair with only eight examples graded by PCGS in all grades.
1855 Flying Eagle J-173 PR-65BN NGC (PS) CAC $6,500
Fully struck with hardly a mark. It has an original chocolate brown look with very sharp features. The metrics of the coin are labeled on the holder.
1858 Flying Eagle / Laurel wreath J-191 PR-63 PCGS (PS) $4,000
Fully struck with outstanding eye appeal. There are hardly any marks. It looks better than the grade suggests. This is an important pattern being that it is a transitional die pair with the obverse of 1858 (small letters) and the reverse similar to 1859 (five leaves).
1858 J-208d Snow-PT35 Breen-1943 PR-64 PCGS (PS) $7,500
This is the rare exact transitional design of 1859 with the Pointed Bust obverse and Six Leaf Laurel Wreath reverse. The J-208 is a popular although relatively common pattern. But 99% of all examples are the Broad Bust and five Leaf Laurel die pair. I have traced only 9 examples. This is an outstanding example with only a small mark to the right of the date. There are some planchet streaks which my be the reason it is not a PR65. Only the Larson example is finer! Ex: NGC PR-65, Tag included.
1858 Small Eagle / Six-Leaf Laurel wreath J-202b PT-20 PR-65 PCGS (PS) $10,000
Six Leaf reverse as adopted in 1859. The finest known example of this very rare die pair. Only ten examples are believed to have been struck and only six are traced today. The mirrors are very deep and the devices frosty. It has a beautiful golden tone.
1868 J-608 PR-66 Cameo PCGS (PS) $2,450
The finest graded by PCGS. This small coin is about the size of a Half-Dime. It is what the cent would look like if Joseph Wharton had his way and made it propotional to the Five-cent and Three-cent nickels. If he was succsesful, what would we be calling "pennies" today? Hmm.. Nickels, Trickels and ...Pickles?
1856 Snow-1 "Titled ONE CENT" XF-45 (PCGS Genuine) $12,500
Here is the rare Snow-1 1856 which is probably the most famous and interesting die pair of the 1856's. The Eagle is aligned flying upwards, the ONE CENT is punched into the die tilted within the wreath. Only 12 examples are traced. And this one, while sharp, shows some slight pitting on the surface. The coin is in a PCGS "Genuine" holder and should (and will) be sent back in to get the variety placed on the holder.
1856 Snow-3 XF-45 PCGS (PS) $12,500
Here is a beautiful original circulated example. This is the Snow-3 die pair which is the original striking of this issue. The coin has just light wear and very few marks. There is a lot of age-old debris in the protected areas. This gives it a very attractive "fresh from the 100-year old envelope" look.

Full strike with semi-prooflike surfaces. It has a light golden tone. This is a very pretty example.
1858/7 Snow-1 AU-55 PCGS (PS) $3,000
Nearly Mint State. This coin has the typical weakness on the tail and corresponding area on the wreath. Were it not for a light scratch through the right wing this could be AU58.
1858/7 Snow-1 MS-63 PCGS (PS) $15,000
Here is a well struck early die state with outstanding surfaces This is one of the few examples seen that has full feather tips on the eagle's tail. 1859 MS-63 PCGS $560
Well struck. An affordable example. Dies are rotated as shown.
1859 MS-64 PCGS (PS) $1,500
Full strike with just a few light marks. This is a very tough one-year type.
1859 MS-64 PCGS (PS) $1,750
Fully struck and a totally original old-time example. There are a few trivial spots on the obverse, but these are just laying on the surface and are in this case acceptable for the grade. The coin is in an old green-label holder from over 10 years ago with an attribution from the Floyd Starr Collection (Stack's 10/92:14) on the holder. It was offered uncertified back in 1992 and brought $1800, so bidders at the time thought it was a gem. It still is! Ex:The Magic Collection, earlier Floyd Starr (1992).

1859/1859 Snow-1 MS-63 NGC (PS) $4,000
This is one of the best repunched dates of the series! It is also one of the finest known ans well as being a very early die state with very, very sharp details. The coin could easily qualify for MS65 were it not for two spots - one by the U in UNITED and another on the reverse by the rim at 2:00.
1859/1859 Snow-1 MS-63 PCGS (PS) $4,500
Fully struck and a real beauty! There are very few marks and the deatail of the repunched date is very bold. This is the third finest example reported. As repunched date varieties go, this is the toughest of the real bold ones, like 1894/94, 1867/67 and 1869/69.

Here is a very rare and unusual Proof Indian. The 1864 No L Proof is very scarce, with an estimated 300 examples struck. This coin is the unique PR-4 die pair plated in the book. It has interesting die pits on the face (mounds on the coin) and a doubled die reverse. The coin is brown with very good mirrors.

Full strike with wonderful gold dust color.
1909 VDB PR-65RB PCGS CAC $52,000
40% RED. This is the toughest regular issue Lincoln Cent. The coin is essentially flawless with no obvious reason why it can not be graded higher. It has a golden amber color with a hint of emerald with magenta on the reverse.
The 1909 VDB Proof was not released to collectors in a normal fashion. The entire mintage of 1,194 was struck in August 2, 1909. In a few days of the official release of regular issue cents, adverse media attention regarding the initials forced the Treasury Secretary only three days later to order the VDB removed. Millions of circulation issues were already released, but the Proofs that were already struck sat at the Mint.
It is assumed that most of the Proof mintage was destroyed because less than 400 are known today. The Proof sets of 1909 were issued in five-piece "silver" sets and two-piece "minor" sets throughout 1909. Sets made prior to August had the Indian Cent. Later sets had the non-VDB cents. How were these VDB Proofs distributed? They were not sold through regular channels. The coins that did manage to get out were likely parceled out to friends of the Mint who specifically requested them. The rest were destroyed.
All this contributes to a coin that has enormous numismatic importance. It was always known to be hard to find, but since the 1909 VDB business strike is so common, it has laid under the radar until the past decade. Here is a true calassic American Numismatic rarity.

1855 Kellogg $50 CHS restrike. Minted September 11, 2001 $5,750
Minted on the most infamous day in the 21st Century. This is a restrike minted from 2-1/2 oz. of gold recovered from a large bar from the SS Central America shipwreck of 1857. The dies were replicated from the real dies by Ron Landis. As a artifact of the California gold rush, it is a very important piece.
